Sarah Palin: Have to get this off my chest

Ok I'm just going to say something right quick. I've been sitting on it for a minute.

The fact that people wishing to have a serious political conversation about the U.S. presidency have to even mention Sarah Palin's name is an embarrassment to our electoral process. I truly hope that the RNC will get its act together and find a REAL candidate to run in 2012. Ok well maybe I don't. Keep screwing over your philosophically conservative base for the glamor of ideologue figureheads. We'll take there 'anything but her' votes.

Basically my opinion of the Republican party is this. Several decades ago they decided that an astute political strategy would be to run ideologue figurehead candidates for political office whilst the intellectual conservatives 'really' ran things. Unfortunately their figureheads got tired of being puppets and have decided to run the show (and the country into the ground.) Now because of the compromises made by the philosophically and fiscally conservative cats years ago we're stuck actually trying to have a political conversation with people who don't even care about the ACTUAL structure of our government.

I don't believe that all conservatives are Republican asshats, but I think the ones who stand behind the RNC despite its chicanery are debasing our national politics by allowing buffoonery to continue.

The Democratic Party is thus seen as weak because it refuses to allow a few ideologues to run its entire agenda. But in fact that's how democratic politics should work! Based on consensus, pragmatism, and protecting the rights and liberties of the vulnerable and subjugated.
