Woke up this morning and decided that I was going to make a few self-care purchases. My self-care purchases are a little different from the norm however.
Today I've decided to invest in the book Seal It With A Kiss. Now I consider this a self-care purchase because kissing has been on my mind lately. Not that way--okay well not only that way. It is one of the skills in my ahem 'fun-times tool box' that I feel I could be better at. Rather than spend my whole life beating myself up about how I kiss...I'd rather just be intentional about getting better at it.
And I guess that is the point of this post. I think they're often aspects of ourselves and our lives that we are unhappy with. And we constantly berate ourselves about them. Especially when it comes to sex(uality). Now I can understand the impulse, and I am no stranger to the act either. However, as I've committed to taking better care of myself over the years one thing that I've really tried to let go of is my fear, shame, anxiety about talking about what I like/don't like/wish I could improve on about sex. Being more open about these things has 1)taken some of the pressure off and 2) cleared up space in my mind/life to turn away from that self-deprecating model about sex and turn towards a much more self-accepting model.
I recognize that its not easy to start on this kind of journey. And I'm definitely not a guru of any kind who can bring you through it. But I do think that the internet is full of excellent resources to help! One of the reasons that I like the website EdenFantasys is because it offers you a plethora of information as well as products. I would suggest checking out their Sexis Magazine section for lots of interesting articles and columns dedicated to talking openly about sex, giving sex advice (check out Tuesdays With Nina), and generally sexual humor (the Bloggess is hilarious.) Of course, if you're looking to go more in depth on a topic you can go my route and check out the section specifically on How-To's and Sexual Guides in the books for sale.
If you're not 18 or whatever the legal age of majority is in your current location I would also suggest Scarleteen.com. Great website. I believe I already have a link in the side bar. And if I don't there will be one moments after this post is published!
